The New England Patriots have traded wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans in a deal that sends safety Jaylen Reed and a draft pick to Foxborough.
The move clears up space in what had become a crowded receiver room in New England, where Boutte had settled into a solid complementary role over the past two seasons. He caught a combined 76 passes for 1,140 yards and nine touchdowns in 29 games, including a standout performance in last season's playoffs where he led the Patriots with 168 receiving yards in four postseason games.
Boutte's departure was expected, given the Patriots' recent signings and trades. With Romeo Doubs and A.J. Brown joining the team, Boutte's role in the receiving corps was left uncertain. The 5-foot-11, 197-pound Boutte projects as a complementary receiver for the Texans alongside Nico Collins, but the progress he's shown the past two seasons suggests there might be some untapped reserves that could elevate his game slightly more.
