Espinal Joins Diamondbacks on Minor League Deal

Santiago Espinal has found a new home within the NL West, signing a minor league deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday.

The 2026 season has been a chaotic one for Espinal, who initially latched onto a minor league deal with the Dodgers and eventually made the opening day roster. He played in 36 games with the big league squad, slashing .268/.276/.375 with a home run and seven RBI across 60 plate appearances.

The Dodgers roster has been a carousel of All-Star talent playing nearly every day, with taxi squad members playing equally vital roles in the team's success. Espinal was released by the Dodgers on June 18 before signing a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers on July 2, only to once again be released 26 days later.

He slashed .262/.333/.310 with six RBI with the Triple-A Round Rock Express. It's unclear what the future holds for Espinal, but for now, he'll be looking to make an impact with the Reno Aces.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been rebuilding their roster in recent years, and the addition of Espinal could be a significant boost to their lineup. With the team currently sitting in third place in the NL West, every player will be crucial in their push for a playoff spot.

Espinal's signing is the latest in a series of moves the Diamondbacks have made to strengthen their roster. The team has been actively looking to add depth and talent to their lineup, and Espinal's experience and skills will likely be a valuable asset.

The biggest question now is how Espinal will fit into the Diamondbacks' plans. Will he be a key contributor to the team's success, or will he struggle to find his place in the lineup? Only time will tell.
