Harry Kane, one of the greatest strikers to ever play the game that the world calls football, has expressed his desire to try his hand at placekicking in the NFL. The England international, who currently plays for Bayern Munich in Germany, has been open about his love for American football and has even mentioned that it’s “always something that’s in the back of my mind.”
Kane’s interest in the NFL is not new, and he has been friends with none other than Tom Brady, the legendary quarterback who knows a thing or two about the league. In a 2023 appearance on Good Morning America, Kane stated that he “definitely wants to explore” being a kicker after retiring from football. “I love (the NFL), so I would love to give it a go,” he said.
While it may seem like a far-fetched idea, Kane’s background and skills could actually make him a viable candidate for an NFL kicker. His right foot is strong and precise, and if he could learn the mechanics, he’d have a chance. In fact, he could take some inspiration from Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey, who was a first-round MLS Draft pick out of Notre Dame but became the highest-paid kicker in football once his soccer career flamed out.
Kane’s interest in the NFL is not just a passing fancy; he has spoken about it on several occasions. Midway through 2025, he mentioned that it’s “a lot of hard work” to become an NFL kicker, and he’s “not expecting to just rock up and start kicking field goals.” However, he’s willing to put in the practice to make it happen. At 33, Kane is in the back stretch of his footballing career on the pitch, and it’s not impossible to imagine him as an NFL kicker.
Kane’s current focus is on leading England to a World Cup championship for the first time since 1966. After that, he can consider pursuing his American football dream.
