The ACC has been a tight-knit family in recent years, but Duke Blue Devils will face a challenge when they host Boston College on Halloween night, a matchup that could have significant implications for the Blue Devils' season.
Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and that means Boston College will be in action, facing off with ACC foe Duke in what is its second straight road game and part of a stretch of three out of four.
The Blue Devils are looking to regain their footing after a remarkable 2025 season, which saw them win the Sun Bowl, 42-39, over Arizona State. However, they will be without their leader, Darian Mensah, who transferred to Miami in the offseason, leaving a huge void in their offense.
Duke's offense will look completely different this season, with Walker Eget taking over at quarterback. Eget has been thrown to turning the ball over but has a big-time arm, and he will be relying on tight end Jeremiah Halsey to take on more responsibility. The Blue Devils also lost their top pass catcher, Cooper Barkate, who joined Mensah in Miami.
The Blue Devils' defense, however, remains strong, with Manny Diaz looking to revamp the unit. Diaz knows how to coach up a defense, and the Blue Devils forced 24 turnovers last season and multiple in seven games. The middle of the defense will be just as good with Luke Mergott and Kendall Johnson returning, combining for 127 tackles last season.
The series history between these two teams dates back to 1927, with Boston College holding a 5-4 advantage. However, Duke has won three of the last four matchups, including a 38-31 victory in 2022.
The Eagles will face a tough task in taking down the reigning ACC champions, but they will be getting points and at this time, it is hard to imagine an upset. Will the Eagles be able to earn a statement victory heading into November?
The game is scheduled to take place at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, North Carolina, on Saturday, October 31, at a time to be determined.
