LSU announced the official addition of 6-5 forward Anna Minaeva from Russia to its 2026-27 women's basketball roster on August 14.
The 17-year-old Russian forward has been playing professional basketball in her home country, mostly for MBA Moscow-2, the second-level squad. Minaeva averaged 5.6 points with four rebounds in just 12 games.
At 6-5, Minaeva brings much-needed size to the low block for LSU. She is known for her ability to play defense without getting into foul trouble and can time up her jumps to block shots.
Minaeva joins Spaniard Noa Morro as the second international signee for LSU this offseason. Morro has been with the team for much of the summer.
LSU head coach Kim Mulkey has been waiting for months to bring in Minaeva. The waiting game is over for both parties. Minaeva landed in the United States on Thursday.
The addition of Minaeva to the roster will bolster Mulkey's offensive system. The footwork she possesses in screen-and-pops and pick-and-rolls will be valuable assets for the team.
Minaeva will have the support of experienced teammates, including Ukrainian Kate Koval and sophomore Grace Knox. Both players have loads of experience with LSU and there won't be a lot of pressure for Minaeva to adapt and develop quickly.
LSU's 2026-27 roster for Kim Mulkey includes several players, including G Mikaylah Williams, Sr., 6-0, and F Kate Koval, Jr., 6-5.
Minaeva's addition to the roster comes ahead of the team's upcoming season. LSU will face UConn in Nashville, with head coach Kim Mulkey facing off against Geno Auriemma.
The LSU women's basketball team is expected to benefit from Minaeva's size and defensive skills. Her ability to block shots and defend without getting into foul trouble will be a valuable asset for the team.
The 2026-27 season is shaping up to be an exciting one for LSU. With Minaeva on board, the team is looking to make a strong push in the standings.
