Steven Asplund, the winner of UFC Vegas 120, has set his sights on Jamahal Hill after calling out the former UFC champion in a post-fight interview.
Asplund, who beat Guilherme Pat by unanimous decision in their heavyweight battle, made his callout during a post-fight session with reporters. He chose not to call out Hill immediately after his fight, but decided to shoot his shot later. "I want Jamahal Hill," Asplund said. "Jamahal Hill is a fat boy who just came up (to heavyweight). That's a f*cking nice scalp to add to my wall."
Asplund, who is now 2-1 since joining the UFC, has built a reputation as one of the more entertaining fighters on the roster. His callout, which included a personal jab at Hill's physique, was not taken lightly. Hill, who recently moved up to heavyweight, has not commented on Asplund's challenge.
The UFC matchmakers, Sean Shelby and Mick Maynard, have not yet confirmed whether Asplund's fight against Hill will be booked. However, Asplund is confident that he will get his wish. "I want whatever the UFC wants, and I think Jamahal would be a very fun fight," Asplund said. "It's an entertaining fight. We like his fighting style, I like my fighting style, and he's an abrasive motherf*cker just like me."
Asplund's callout has sparked debate among fans and analysts, with some praising his confidence and others criticizing his disrespect towards Hill. Asplund, however, insists that his comments were not meant to be disrespectful. "This does not come from a disrespectful place," Asplund said. "This is me trying to show everybody that I am willing to take f*cking tough fights."
The UFC has not yet announced any plans for a fight between Asplund and Hill. However, Asplund is confident that the fight will be booked. "Come on, let's have a press conference, let's talk some sh*t," Asplund said. "Come on, push me."
