Seventy golfers made it to the FedEx Cup Playoffs in Memphis, but only 50 will move on to the next stage.
Seventy players made it to Memphis, the first of three legs in the FedEx Cup Playoffs at TPC Southwind, in pursuit of the FedEx Cup and a gigantic payday. However, only 50 will advance from the St. Jude to the BMW Championship, which will be held in St. Louis at Bellerive Country Club this year.
This week is arguably the biggest in the playoffs due to the stakes involved. Not only will the top 50 golfers make it to the next playoff event and secure another guaranteed payday, but they will also lock up spots in all of the signature events for 2027.
The cutline entering this week's no-cut, 72-hole event is crucial for those on the outside looking in. A closer look at the cutline reveals the minimum required finish for those players to mathematically pass Maverick McNealy, who currently sits at No. 50.
Alex Noren is currently in 46th position with 859 FedEx Cup points, Michael Brennan is in 47th with 857 points, Matt McCarty is in 48th with 838 points, Keith Mitchell is in 49th with 811 points, and Maverick McNealy is in 50th with 806 points.
These golfers are fighting for survival in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Harris English, for example, is currently 51st in the FedEx Cup standings and needs a solo 31st finish to stay alive.
Meanwhile, Max Homa is 52nd and requires a two-way tie for 25th to make it to the next stage. Sungjae Im is 53rd and also needs a two-way tie for 24th to stay in contention. Jordan Spieth, a former world number one, is 54th and requires a solo 23rd finish to mathematically pass McNealy.
The pressure is on for these golfers as they fight for spots in the top 50. Only time will tell who will emerge victorious in Memphis.
