Ty Gibbs has finally won a NASCAR Cup Series race, storming to his second victory of the season at the Iowa Corn 350 on August 9 at Iowa Speedway.
He locked down his win by pacing the pack for 20 laps and holding off his hard-charging teammate, Christopher Bell, in the closing moments.
The 23-year-old Joe Gibbs Racing driver's victory has vaulted him up the NASCAR standings, with second place now his position. He trails leader Denny Hamlin by 103 points with three weeks to go in the regular season.
Gibbs' development is evident, having moved from 16th place in the standings last year to second this season, seven points in front of Ryan Blaney. He has ranked inside the top four in four of the last six races.
Ty Gibbs was ecstatic about his win, saying, "This year has been a lot of fun." He added, "I've been in contention at a lot of these, and it's been so much fun this year, so just keep working hard."
Gibbs' teammate, Christopher Bell, has been close to winning a race this season but hasn't yet. He finished second for the seventh time this year at Iowa, propelling him to sixth in the standings.
Bell was less than pleased about his finish, saying, "This is what you call a bad second-place finish, for sure." He added, "Ty did a really good job. He did a great job managing the race."
After a break, NASCAR will now race every weekend through the crowning of a champion in November. The next event is the Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway, where Austin Dillon will be the man to beat.
Dillon resides 27th in points but has claimed the last two races at Richmond, where he led 107 laps during the 2025 event. The Cook Out 400 will air on USA Network at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 15.
The NASCAR schedule is now packed with racing events, with the season's final weeks determining the champion. With Ty Gibbs' win, the competition has become even more intense, and fans are eagerly anticipating the next event.
