The Lennox Bandits staged a thrilling comeback to defeat Groton Locke Electric 2-1 in a Class B state tournament first-round game on Friday afternoon at Cadwell Park.
The Lennox Bandits (10-7) scored one run each in the sixth and eighth innings, securing a trip to the second round.
Talon Eich had two hits for Lennox, including a double, while Mason Reischl had the lone RBI for the Bandits. Conner Eich threw six innings in his start for Lennox, allowing six hits, one run, and striking out five.
Meanwhile, Groton outhit Lennox 9-6 in the game, with Brevin Fliehs, Ben Althoff, and Jonah Schmidt each notching two hits. Schmidt, a Northern State University baseball player, had the lone RBI for Locke Electric in the second inning.
Groton's Palmer Boyd was strong on the mound, throwing six innings and allowing one unearned run, striking out eight without a walk. Ryan Groeblinghoff threw the final two innings and took the loss, allowing one run and one hit, striking out three.
Lennox will face Volga in the second round on Monday at 7:30 p.m. The game will be a significant test for the Bandits, who were making their first appearance in the state bracket as a club.
The victory was secured by Braxton Musser, who recorded the final three innings on the mound, allowing three hits and striking out four, picking up the win for Lennox.
