Conor McGregor Faces Lengthy Recovery After Undergoing Surgery

Conor McGregor is on the road to recovery after undergoing surgery on his injured ACL and meniscus, the UFC star revealed in a post-surgery update.

McGregor, 38, suffered the injury during his comeback fight against Max Holloway on July 11. The referee stopped the fight 69 seconds after it started, with Holloway winning by TKO. McGregor has said he hopes to return to the octagon by next summer and finish his UFC contract that has one fight left.

The surgery was a success, according to McGregor, who expressed his determination to get back on track. "What's up folks? The Mac is back,’’ McGregor said in a video posted on social media. “My knee is repaired. Surgery was a success and I'm on the road to recovery."

McGregor's mindset appears to be unwavering, even in the face of a lengthy recovery. "That should tell you all you need to know about my mindset. Straight into surgery, knee repaired and on the road. Let's go," he said.

The UFC star has cited Dominic Cruz, a retired UFC fighter who returned from multiple ACL tears and reclaimed the bantamweight title, as a source of motivation. He also mentioned former UFC star George St. Pierre and Tom Brady, other athletes who recovered from knee injuries similar to McGregor’s. "These are my motivation here, especially the fighting boys,’’ McGregor said. “You, Cruz. Unstoppable, baby. My mindset is unstoppable, unbreakable."

McGregor's injury may have put his comeback on hold, but it hasn't affected his sense of humor. In the video update, he joked about his hair, saying, "I want to do something about this hair.’’ “I'm not sure just what yet. Stay tuned folks."

The road to recovery will be a long one for McGregor, but his determination and motivation suggest that he'll be back in the octagon sooner rather than later.
