Real Madrid splurge on Yan Diomande: How the Galactico-era fee stacks up

Real Madrid have splurged on young winger Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, with reports claiming a base fee of €125 million ($144.3m) plus €15 million ($17.3m) more in add-ons.

The 19-year-old's valuation skyrocketed after his starring role for the Ivory Coast at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making him a top target for European clubs. Paris Saint-Germain had seemed to win the race, but Real Madrid swooped in and reportedly beat their offers for both a transfer fee and salary.

The transfer market has seen most of Real Madrid's record signings blow past the traditional Galacticos era. Diomande's base fee is already just over €2 million below Jude Bellingham's current record, who joined from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2023 for a fee of €127m ($137.5m based on conversion rates at the time).

Ben Jacobs of GiveMeSport reported that RB Leipzig's board approved the sale of Yan Diomande to Real Madrid for a base fee of €125 million ($144.3m) plus €15 million ($17.3m) more in add-ons. This tracks with previous reporting over the last few weeks, with transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano stating that Real Madrid are paying "over €100 million" for Diomande's arrival.

Earlier, David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that RB Leipzig had pushed for a €130m ($148m) valuation, while Sky Sports stated that Real Madrid had seen an initial bid of €99m ($112m) rejected, with a structure of €90.1m ($102.8m) in initial fee and €10m ($11.4m) in add-ons.

The Sporting News details what the fee for Diomande will be, and where it ranks in Real Madrid history. With the club famous for its ability to secure superstar talent at top dollar, Diomande's arrival is likely to make him Real Madrid's record transfer acquisition at some point soon.

According to Transfermarkt, updated as of August 5, 2026, the current transfer market values are as follows:

Meanwhile, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez appears to have secured the crown jewel of the club's 2026 summer transfer window, as reports claim that young winger Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig has agreed to a transfer and is on his way to the Bernabeu.

On Tuesday, Real Madrid will announce the official signing of Yan Diomande, marking a new era under Jose Mourinho, who has returned to lead the club from the dugout. The deal is expected to be worth over €120 million in total, making Diomande's arrival Real Madrid's record transfer acquisition.
