The Kentucky basketball alumni squad La Familia will face Davis Steel in the championship game of The Basketball Tournament (TBT) on Sunday, August 2, at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington.
The La Familia/Davis Steel game will take place at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 2, at Memorial Coliseum. This matchup will determine the winner of the $2 million prize, with the money distribution decided by the team and its players.
La Familia made its first run to the TBT championship game in its third year competing in the summer event. The team defeated JHX Hoops, Kansas' alumni team, 78-65 in a TBT semifinal matchup on July 29. Former UK guard Archie Goodwin led La Familia in scoring, putting up a game-high 28 points.
Davis Steel, a collection of former college basketball players from schools across the country, will be a tough opponent for La Familia. The team competed in previous years as Eberlein Drive and eliminated La Familia in the round of 16 last summer.
The TBT Championship game will be airing on Fox and streaming on the Fox Sports App. Fans can also purchase tickets to the game, which start at $30.40 as of July 31.
Former Wildcats and others on La Familia are looking to make history and prove that they still have the caliber to compete with the best. "To be able to win this โ like, the money is cool, but to be able to do this for the school, I think is dope, because it just shows, like, 'Hey, even though (these) guys aren't in the NBA, they still are really good, and they're able to compete,'" Goodwin said.
La Familia's determination and skills will be put to the test in the championship game against Davis Steel. The winner of the game will take home the $2 million prize and cement their place in TBT history.
