Mets' Power Surge Continues with Tyrone Taylor's Streak
Tyrone Taylor has been making the most of his recent opportunities with the Mets, hitting his 10th home run of the season in Saturday's 6-2 loss to the Marlins.
The veteran outfielder's impressive power surge has seen him hit seven home runs in his last 19 games, a career high for him in that span. He's also leading the majors in slugging (.951) and OPS (1.389) in that period.
Interim manager Andy Green praised Taylor's performance, saying he's "been phenomenal" and has been swinging the bat as well as anyone in the league. Green attributes Taylor's success to his confidence, which has allowed him to trust himself at the plate.
"He's got a lot of confidence right now. He's turning himself loose," Green explained. "If he misses a pitch, he doesn't worry about it, he takes a hack at the next one and trusts himself."
Taylor himself credits his recent success to hard work and good results. "The work I've been putting in has been really good lately. And been getting good results. I've just been swinging at good pitches," he said.
Despite the rumors surrounding his trade status, Taylor remains focused on the present and is committed to helping the Mets win. "I just started to think about it the past couple of days," he said of the rumors. "I've been doing a pretty good job of staying present and just trying to be my best self daily and do what I can to help the team win."
Taylor's recent success has ironically made it more likely that he will be traded by the upcoming deadline. However, he remains fond of his time with the Mets, citing his love for the team, staff, and teammates. "I love it here, man. I got my family out there. We've been out here for three years," Taylor said.
The Mets are likely to move Taylor by Monday's deadline, with the 32-year-old free agent set to become a free agent at the end of the season. As the trade deadline approaches, the focus remains on Taylor's performance and whether he will be traded or stay with the Mets.
