Kyle Whittingham has found his new offensive coordinator in Jason Beck, a California native who has a proven track record of turning underperforming offenses into top-tier units.
Whittingham praised Beck's ability to get the most out of each player, noting that the new OC took an offense that was "anemic" in 2023 and turned it into a powerhouse in 2024. Under Beck's guidance, Utah's offense jumped from 115th to 4th in the nation in total offense, while also ranking 2nd in rushing and 1st in redzone production.
Beck's success is not limited to his time at Utah. In 2023, he was the OC at New Mexico, where the team finished 45th in total offense but also 4th in the nation. Whittingham has expressed confidence in Beck's ability to adapt to new teams and situations.
Quarterback Bryce Underwood and running back Jordan Marshall are also excited about the new offense, with Marshall describing it as "explosive, while also tricky." Marshall noted that Beck's mentality is to deploy the talent he has as it is, rather than trying to fit players into specific roles.
Whittingham and Marshall both praised Beck's ability to get the most out of his players, with Whittingham noting that Beck has a "record of showing that they can have a 1,000-yard rusher and a 1,000-yard receiver." Marshall also praised Beck's ability to communicate with his players, noting that he has a "great job of also talking to his players" and making adjustments based on their input.
The Wolverines face a challenging schedule this season, with five defenses that were in the top 10 last year in total defense. However, if Michigan can achieve a top five offense in the country, it would be a massive win for Beck and the Wolverines.
The Michigan Wolverines are looking to make a strong statement in the upcoming season, and with Jason Beck at the helm, they may be in for a surprise.
