Heriberto Hernández Tops the Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire with a Surprising List
Heriberto Hernández, a 26-year-old outfielder for the Miami Marlins, is the top player to add to fantasy baseball lineups this week, according to recent waiver wire recommendations. Hernández has hit .276 with eight homers and a .973 OPS in July, making him the top player to add this week.
Hernández's impressive performance is not a one-month fluke. Since June 1, only seven players have topped his 14 home runs. His average exit velocity is 92.2 mph, indicating that he is crushing baseballs. Hernández's expected stats are slightly better than his actual marks, making him an attractive addition to fantasy lineups.
Another hitter to consider adding is Cole Carrigg, an outfielder for the Colorado Rockies. Carrigg has hit .324 with a .927 OPS in July, but has only a 23% roster rate. His speed and performance in a full-time role make him a good option for a week-long stint at Coors Field.
Max Clark, the No. 13 prospect in baseball, is also making his major league debut tonight for the Detroit Tigers. Clark has strong plate discipline and plus speed, having logged a 50:66 BB:K ratio and 21 steals in Triple-A this season. He is expected to be a regular for the Tigers from this point forward.
Garrett Mitchell, an outfielder for the Milwaukee Brewers, is another hitter to consider adding. Mitchell has a proven track record of being an across-the-board contributor in a quality lineup. He has done his best work of late, with an .873 OPS in July.
Ty France, a 32-year-old first baseman for the San Diego Padres, is playing the best baseball of his eight-year career right now. France has been on fire in July, with six home runs and a .940 OPS. His fly ball rate and hard-hit rate have skyrocketed this month, driving his power surge.
Dalton Rushing, a catcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, is also worth considering. Rushing has cooled since a torrid stretch in April, but still fares better at the dish than most catchers. He has an .820 OPS this month, including an .884 mark.
On the pitching side, Kyle Leahy, a starter for the St. Louis Cardinals, has taken a step forward in his first season as a starter. Leahy has posted a 1.15 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, and 29:8 K:BB ratio over his past six starts. He is a good option for a start against a low-scoring Blue Jays lineup tonight.
Zac Thornton, a starter for the New York Mets, has also been recommended. Thornton has posted a 1.42 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, and 19:5 K:BB ratio over his past four starts. He is a quality start in all four of his outings since June 26.
Quinn Mathews, a starter for the St. Louis Cardinals, is set to make his long-awaited MLB debut in Toronto on Saturday. Mathews was considered one of baseball's premier pitching prospects at the outset of the 2025 season, but injuries and control issues derailed his progress.
Luke Weaver, a reliever for the New York Mets, is a possible saves source in advance of the MLB trade deadline. The Mets could find a taker for closer Devin Williams and move Weaver to the ninth inning. Weaver has been terrific this season, with a 1.88 ERA and 0.84 WHIP.
Adrian Morejón, a reliever for the San Diego Padres, is in a similar situation to Weaver. The Padres could either trade him or closer Mason Miller. Morejón is a good option for managers who want to stash a possible saves source in advance of the trade deadline.
The waiver wire is constantly changing, and these recommendations may not be valid next week. However, for now, Hernández, Carrigg, Clark, Mitchell, France, Rushing, Leahy, Thornton, Mathews, Weaver, and Morejón are all worth considering.
