The Florida State Seminoles are counting on a rejuvenated running game to help carry them through the 2026 season, after accumulating a respectable 2,624 yards in 12 games in 2025.
Head coach Mike Norvell is back at the helm, taking over play-calling duties, and he's got a talented crop of running backs to work with.
With fall camp kicking off on Wednesday, let's take a closer look at the Seminoles' running back room.
The biggest losses for FSU are the departures of Gavin Sawchuk, Jaylin Lucas, Kam Davis, and Roydell Williams, all of whom transferred to other programs. Sawchuk led the team with 486 yards and eight touchdowns last season before moving on to Northwestern, while Lucas had a disappointing year with 160 yards rushing and 88 yards receiving before transferring to Tulane.
Davis, a four-star recruit, struggled with injuries and managed just 221 yards rushing and one touchdown plus 67 receiving yards in his two seasons at FSU, before transferring to Liberty. Williams, who transferred from Alabama, had a forgettable stint with the Seminoles, with just 99 yards on 41 carries and two touchdowns plus 65 receiving yards.
Incoming transfers Quintrevion Wisner from Texas and Gemari Sands from Florida Atlantic are expected to make an impact, along with Amari Thomas, a four-star recruit who decommitted from South Carolina and committed to FSU.
Wisner had a productive three-year stint with the Longhorns, racking up 1,064 yards and five touchdowns as a sophomore, and leading the team with 597 yards last season. Sands finished with 582 yards and three touchdowns plus 43 receptions for 277 yards in his three seasons at FAU.
The projected depth chart has Ousmane Kromah as the starter, with Wisner as his backup. Kromah showed his potential as a true freshman with 408 yards on 72 carries, and his receiving skills are underrated.
Wisner has the experience and production to be a nice complement to Kromah, and his ability to make guys miss in the open field makes him a threat to be a productive piece in FSU's offense.
Samuel Singleton Jr. is another player to watch, as he's coming off his best campaign with 360 yards on 51 carries and four touchdowns. He's a viable threat to challenge Wisner for the RB2 spot.
FSU's head coach Mike Norvell is calling plays, and the team is expected to run a lot of 21 personnel, which could give Singleton and Kromah plenty of opportunities to shine.
Fall camp is underway, and the regular season is set to begin in a month. The Seminoles' running back room is looking more promising than ever, and it will be interesting to see how these new additions perform in the upcoming season.
