DeenTheGreat faces 15 years in prison after being charged with felony robbery in Miami yacht case
Miami prosecutors have filed a felony robbery charge against boxer/streamer DeenTheGreat, whose birth name is Nurideen Shabazz. The charge carries a potential 15-year prison sentence if he's found guilty.
The incident occurred on May 27 in Miami Beach. According to court records, the alleged fight between DeenTheGreat and a woman named Destiny Aleman took place on a yacht. Aleman reported that DeenTheGreat forced her to leave the boat after other men attempted to talk to her.
DeenTheGreat prohibited Aleman from talking to anyone else during the yacht trip, she claimed. After being ejected from the boat, he allegedly grabbed her forearm to prevent her from filming him and attempted to snatch her cell phone. The incident left Aleman with a small scratch mark on her left forearm.
The owner of the yacht, which he lent to DeenTheGreat, provided investigators with footage of the event. The video revealed DeenTheGreat making several attempts to grab the phone from Aleman, who crouched on the floor to defend the device.
DeenTheGreat was arrested as he left the yacht and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in connection with a robbery/strong-arm/attempt charge. His bond was set at $2,500, and the court ordered him to have no contact with Aleman. Former boxing champion Adrien Broner, a frequent collaborator of DeenTheGreat, paid the bond.
DeenTheGreat, 25, has a significant online presence through live streaming and crossover boxing matches. He participated in seven fights under the banner of Misfits Boxing, winning six of them. His victims include Walid Muhsein and David Fogarty, while DeenTheGreat lost to Amado Vargas in Dubai.
DeenTheGreat's lawyer, Richard Cooper, told TMZ that his client "has had a target on his back for some time now." He added that "the facts are not entirely clear," and that people need to wait for the court decision.
The case is still pending. DeenTheGreat has entered a not guilty plea and requested a jury trial. He also requested discovery from prosecutors, which will likely be a key part of the upcoming proceedings.
