Dominik Mysterio opens up about his dual relationships on WWE TV and in real life, crediting his wife Marie for keeping him grounded.
As part of one of WWE's longest on-screen relationships, Dominik Mysterio has been romantically involved with Liv Morgan in storylines since joining The Judgment Day faction in September 2022. However, Mysterio's real-life relationship with his wife Marie has been a constant source of support.
Mysterio's wife Marie is his rock, having met her in eighth grade. "My real wife is a saint of a woman. Shout out to Marie," Mysterio said. "She's been my rock since I was 14, man, [since] 2011. Without her, I genuinely believe I would not be in the place that I am right now, because I don't know if I'd be alive."
The couple communicates regularly, with Mysterio giving his wife a heads-up before significant events on TV. "I'll call her and be like, 'Hey, honey, don't tune in. This is what's going to go down,'" he explained. Marie's understanding of the entertainment value of WWE has been crucial in keeping their relationship intact.
A humorous anecdote highlights the importance of Marie's perspective. When Mysterio kissed Liv on TV, his wife texted him about a more pressing matter: a massive tarantula in their garage. "She's the best, man. I don't know how else I could put her over," Mysterio said.
Mysterio's wife has never watched his segments with Morgan, viewing them as purely fictional. "It's as simple as understanding professional wrestling for what it is," Mysterio said. "I don't come home and I'm 'Dirty Dom.' I come home and I'm Dominik."
Marie's contentment with staying behind the scenes has allowed Mysterio to pursue his WWE career without worrying about his personal life being scrutinized. Although Mysterio has been attached to female performers in WWE for longer than he's been a solo act, don't expect Marie ever to turn up on WWE TV.
Mysterio and Morgan will compete this weekend at SummerSlam in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with Morgan defending her Women's World Championship against Iyo Sky on Night 1, while Mysterio takes on Danhausen in a "Human Monies on a Pole" match the following day.
