DeMeco Ryans Outlines Texans' Summer Focus Areas on Day 1 of Training Camp

The Houston Texans' head coach, DeMeco Ryans, expressed satisfaction with the team's first day of training camp, highlighting the importance of communication and teamwork.

Ryans emphasized the need for the team to build on the positive momentum from the first day of practice. "It's a steady build. How do you continue to improve each day?" he said. The coach also praised the team's communication, noting that the players were "on the same page" and working together effectively.

The Texans' offense had a strong showing on the first day of camp, with Ryans commending their pre-snap preparation and quick decision-making. He also expressed enthusiasm for the team's running back group, which includes Woody Marks, Jawhar Jordan, and David Montgomery. "I see Woody, he looks faster, he's making more decisive decisions like cuts," Ryans said.

The coach also spoke about the challenges faced by the team's rookies, including center Keylan Rutledge. Ryans encouraged the rookies to focus on the small details and work hard at their craft. "If you have a competitive spirit, if you have a willingness and want to succeed and do great, you're going to do that," he said.

At the linebacker position, Ryans praised the leadership of Azeez Al-Shaair and Henry To'oTo'o, who have played a lot of ball together and have a strong connection on and off the field. "Those guys who are taking reps behind them, they just have to look at those two guys and see their leadership, see how they approach every day with a positive attitude," Ryans said.

The quarterback position is also a key area of focus for the Texans, with C.J. Stroud entering the final year of his contract. Ryans downplayed the contract negotiations, saying that the team's performance on the field is what matters most. "You get the contract by what you do on the field. It doesn't matter about what you say, what I say, it's about how you perform on the field," he said.

The wide receiver room is another area of strength for the Texans, with Ryans praising their development and enthusiasm. "It's someone different making a play every day. It's an exciting room for us to see how they develop throughout camp," he said.

As for injured wide receiver Tank Dell, Ryans expressed excitement about his return to practice. "We're excited for Tank to just get back out here in Training Camp. He's on his own ramp-up schedule, but it's exciting to just have him," he said.

The Texans will continue to work on building their chemistry and improving their skills throughout the summer. With a strong roster and a focus on teamwork, they are looking to make a strong push for the playoffs.
