London City makes surprise move for Spain U20s starlet Arques

London City has made a surprise move for Spanish youth international Daniela Arques, signing the 20-year-old from Sporting on a three-year deal.

The move adds to a strong Spanish contingent at the club, following the signings of two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas and ex-Barcelona defender Mapi Leon.

Arques, a key player in Portugal last season, has been a part of the Spain U19s squad who clinched back-to-back European titles in 2024 and 2025, before graduating to the U20s set-up.

The 20-year-old joins London City's Spanish boss Eder Maestre, and is looking forward to developing as a player and as a person. "I'm really excited to be joining London City and can't wait to get started," said Arques. "Coming to the UK to play in the WSL is a brilliant opportunity and I'm looking forward to developing as a player and as a person."

Arques began her career at Athletic Club de Murcia before spells at Alhama and Levante in Spain's top division.

The signing is part of an ambitious summer transfer window for London City, as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

The 20-year-old joins a talented squad at London City, who will be looking to challenge for a top-four spot in the Women's Super League this season.

As Arques links up with her new teammates, she will be looking to make an impact on the pitch and help the team achieve their goals.

The international clearance process is still ongoing, but once completed, Arques will be available to play for London City in their upcoming matches.

London City's strong Spanish contingent is set to be a key factor in the club's success this season, with Arques, Putellas, and Leon all expected to play a major role.
