Santos Concedes Record-Breaking 18 Seconds into UCV Clash
Santos gave its fans at Vila Belmiro more scares than they expected after conceding a goal just 18 seconds into their Copa Sudamericana clash against Universidad Central.
The Brazilian side, Santos, started on the front foot but saw their opponent take the lead after a mistake by Frías and a classy finish from Sosa.
Santos responded well after being caught off guard, but they kept wasting chance after chance. Gabigol stood out for all the wrong reasons, missing several opportunities to level the score.
Cuca turned to Neymar, Bontempo, and Veríssimo right at the start of the second half, and it seemed to spark a change in the team's fortunes. Gabigol finally found the back of the net in the 56th minute, making it 2-1 for Santos.
The expected qualification came, but not without a few scares. Rony hit the post, but he got his goal in the 94th minute after another run by Bontempo, sealing a 4-2 victory for Santos.
Santos will now face Ecuador's Macará in the Copa Sudamericana round of 16. The two teams will face off in a match that will be closely watched by football fans around the world.
