Patriots' Mack Hollins has signaled his readiness to challenge Hunter Henry and Julian Hill for the tight end spot in the team.
Mack Hollins, an eight-year veteran, has exclusively played wide receiver throughout his NFL career. However, he has now expressed his willingness to play tight end for the Patriots to help the team win games.
The Patriots have a conundrum at tight end, with Hunter Henry as a starter, but struggles with the backups. Julian Hill suffered a season-ending knee injury during the team's voluntary offseason practice, and CJ Dippre is also listed as injured on the depth chart.
Eli Raridon, the team's newly drafted player, may be too early to start on off-nights for Henry. This is where Hollins comes in, as he has signaled a strong willingness to play tight end for the sake of just winning games.
According to Karen Guregian of MassLive, Hollins stated, "I'm just a ballplayer. I just want to win games. If you put me in the backfield, I'll run the ball if that's what it's going to be. I think people say I'm like a hybrid tight end because I put my hands on D-Ends and they don't move as well. I got muscles, and I can block. It doesn't matter. If it helps us win the game, that's all I care about."
These words may have been music to Coach Mike Vrabel's ears, as the Patriots need a blocker. The team's wide receiver position is stacked, with players like AJ Brown, Kyle Williams, Kayshon Boutte, and Nick DeGennaro.
The Patriots will have to change their conditioning and upskilling plans for Hollins during the remaining months of the offseason if they decide to move him to tight end.
