Ryan Garcia has revealed that he's disappointed with Oscar De La Hoya's public comments on his upcoming title defense against Conor Benn.
Oscar De La Hoya and Ryan Garcia have reconciled, despite a strained relationship between the two in recent times. Garcia told Uncrowned that his relationship with De La Hoya remained strained and he was disappointed with De La Hoya's public comments putting down Garcia's Sept. 12 WBC welterweight title defense against Conor Benn.
De La Hoya, however, has claimed that the pair have mended fences, stating, "We had a talk the other day — it's great. It's good. We had a discussion the other day, and I know he said a couple things on [‘The Ariel Helwani Show’ last Monday] and this and that, but we talked to each other — everything is great."
The reconciliation comes after a series of public disagreements between the two, including a recent incident where De La Hoya claimed he wasn't invited to the kickoff press conference for Garcia's fight against Benn. De La Hoya accused Zuffa Boxing of trying to keep him away from Dana White, stating, "I really do believe they are trying to keep me away from Dana, because they know what's going to happen."
Despite the latest reconciliation, Golden Boy's diminishing role in Garcia's career suggests their partnership may be coming to an end. Garcia told Uncrowned that he will look to move on from Golden Boy after completing his contract, with De La Hoya acknowledging that Garcia has just one fight remaining on his Golden Boy contract.
The future of Garcia's career is uncertain, with some speculating that he may join Zuffa Boxing after his contract with Golden Boy expires. De La Hoya dismissed the idea, stating, "They're coming after everybody. These guys are, like I said [on my ‘Clapback Thursday’ social media post], they're the Trojan Horse, and just watch out. Trust me, just watch out."
The Garcia-Benn fight is set to take place on Sept. 12 in Las Vegas, with a reported $6 million plus worth of tickets already sold. De La Hoya is looking forward to promoting the event, stating, "I believe the other day Turki Alalshikh said that $6 million plus [worth of tickets] have already been sold, so yeah, it's going to be a big event, so I'm really looking forward to being a part of it."
