Sha'Carri Richardson Clocks Sizzling 100m Time at USA Track and Field Championships
Sha'Carri Richardson has claimed her third national title in the women's 100m, clocking a season-best time of 10.77 at the 2026 USA Track and Field Championships on Friday, July 24.
Richardson, a 26-year-old sprinter, dominated the competition, pulling even with the field around 40 meters before surging past the other sprinters and crossing the finish line with a comfortable victory.
Her training partner and main U.S. rival Melissa Jefferson-Wooden decided to focus just on the women's 200 at this year's U.S. championships, giving Richardson a clear path to the title. Richardson had the fastest time (10.78) during the semifinal round, but it was wind-aided.
Richardson was the heavy favorite to win the women's 100 after her performance at the Prefontaine Classic earlier this month, where she finished second to Melissa Jefferson-Wooden. "It feels phenomenal to be back in a better place. Healthy, physically, mentally and emotionally," Richardson told NBC Sports after the race.
Richardson's personal-best of 10.65 is tied for the seventh fastest ever in the history of the event. She also won a world championship title in the event in 2023 and was second in the 100 at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Richardson is the second woman to win three U.S. 100-meter titles since 2000. Her win solidifies her position as one of the top sprinters in the country.
The 2026 USA Track and Field Championships continue with the women's 200m event, where Melissa Jefferson-Wooden is expected to compete.
