Senior Braeden Shrewsberry set to lead Notre Dame basketball in 2026-27 season

Braeden Shrewsberry enters the 2026-27 Notre Dame basketball season as the team’s senior shooting guard, carrying the responsibility of leadership and steady scoring. He finished last season averaging 11.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 32.7 minutes per game, starting all 31 contests for the Irish. His shooting splits included 39 percent from the field, 40.2 percent from three-point range, and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line.

At 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, Shrewsberry has become a consistent presence on the court and ranks 10th in Notre Dame history with 238 made three-pointers. The school record for career threes stands at 331, set by Colin Falls, which Shrewsberry trails by 93. Entering what could be his final season, he carries the expectations of a senior who can provide both scoring bursts and dependable play.

Fourth-year head coach Micah Shrewsberry stressed the importance of Braeden’s steadiness this season. “Now that he’s a senior, he’s got to be steady. We need his pop and scoring explosiveness at times and we need him to be steady at other times. He understands it. He’s a competitor and a fighter. More than anything, he just wants to win,” Shrewsberry said.

The Irish open their 2026-27 campaign in Rome on November 1 against Villanova as part of the Eternal City Tip-off. Braeden is expected to be a key figure throughout the Atlantic Coast Conference schedule, providing experience and leadership as Notre Dame looks to improve on last year’s performance.

The NCAA’s recent five-for-five eligibility ruling means Shrewsberry has the option to return for a fifth season in 2027-28 if he chooses, adding another layer to his collegiate career prospects. For now, the focus remains on his senior year contributions as a primary scorer and veteran presence.

Shrewsberry’s steady output and well-rounded game have made him a reliable fixture in the Irish lineup. He has logged significant minutes over his tenure, and his ability to hit threes with consistency gives Notre Dame a weapon from beyond the arc. The combination of experience and skill will be critical as the team faces a demanding schedule in the ACC and seeks to secure a postseason berth.

With a blend of scoring, competitiveness, and leadership, Braeden Shrewsberry is positioned to lead Notre Dame’s backcourt this season. The Irish will rely on him not only to make shots but also to set the tone as a senior with championship aspirations.
