Caleb Williams is set to return as the Chicago Bears' starting quarterback against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday after missing three games with a hamstring strain. Williams took part in full practices throughout the week and is expected to be under center for the Bears’ first game action in nearly a month.
The Bears managed a 2-1 record in Williams’s absence, relying on Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum at quarterback. Chicago currently holds a 3-2 record, tied for second place in the NFC North behind the undefeated Minnesota Vikings.
Atlanta will start Michael Penix Jr. despite the quarterback carrying a rib injury sustained during last week’s overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Penix took a hard hit on the Falcons’ final drive of regulation but only missed one play before returning. However, during the break before overtime, Penix acknowledged he could not continue playing through the injury. Backup Tua Tagovailoa came on for one drive, completing a 20-yard pass but threw an interception that ended the game.
The Falcons stand at 2-3 in the NFC South, second behind the Carolina Panthers, who have a slight advantage partly because their bye week was last week.
Sunday’s matchup will be the first time Williams faces the Falcons this season, and his performance could impact the Bears’ standing in a competitive NFC North. The game will air on Fox, with live updates and highlights available through Yahoo Sports.
