Titans likely to play running back Tyjae Spears in Week 6 game against Colts despite knee injury

The Tennessee Titans are expected to have running back Tyjae Spears available for their Week 6 game against the Indianapolis Colts despite a knee injury that left his status uncertain earlier in the week. Spears, who was listed as questionable, practiced fully on Friday after missing Thursday’s session, suggesting he is trending toward playing on Sunday.

Spears took the majority of snaps in the Titans’ backfield during their difficult Week 5 loss to the Houston Texans, indicating he remains the preferred option when healthy. Tennessee has five running backs on their 53-man roster, limiting options to add another player at the position for this game. The Titans have not elevated a running back from the practice squad for the Colts matchup, making Spears the most likely candidate to suit up.

The running back’s availability comes despite the injury concerns that have affected other members of the Titans’ defense. Safety Kevin Winston Jr. is sidelined with a quad injury, and defensive tackle Jordan Elliott remains on the non-injury reserve list due to personal reasons. To fill those gaps, Tennessee has promoted safety Isaiah Oliver and defensive tackle Timmy Horne from the practice squad.

If Spears is ultimately unable to play, veteran Michael Carter would be the most logical replacement. Carter shares a similar skill set and is already on the active roster after being added post-Week 3. However, he has not appeared in a game this season and has been inactive on game days so far. Rookie Nick Singleton is another option, though he was inactive for the Week 5 contest and has minimal game experience this season.

The Titans face a critical AFC South matchup in Indianapolis, looking to recover from their poor showing against Houston. Spears’ participation could be a significant factor in their offensive game plan. The team’s official status updates on game day will provide final confirmation of his availability for the clash with the Colts.
