Will Shipley will miss at least four games after the Philadelphia Eagles placed him on injured reserve with a partial tear of his plantar fascia, the team confirmed following their Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Shipley, who started in Sunday’s defeat, sustained the injury during the game, forcing the Eagles to make an immediate roster adjustment. His placement on IR means he will be sidelined for the next four fixtures: Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers, Week 7 versus the Dallas Cowboys, Week 8 at the Washington Commanders, and Week 9 versus the New York Giants. The Eagles' bye week in Week 10 offers no extra recovery time, so Shipley’s earliest possible return is Week 11 when Philadelphia hosts the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The injury compounds the Eagles’ ongoing running back woes. Saquon Barkley remains sidelined with a hamstring injury, and Tank Bigsby is also on injured reserve. This leaves Dameon Pierce and Carson Steele as the only healthy running backs currently available on the roster. The Eagles maintain additional depth with Jaydon Blue and the recently signed Ian Wheeler on their practice squad.
To fill the roster spot freed by Shipley’s move to IR, Philadelphia signed quarterback Joe Milton III from the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad. The decision signals the team’s immediate need for depth in other areas while the backfield recovers.
Shipley’s absence will test the Eagles’ rushing attack through a challenging stretch of their schedule, including divisional games against Dallas and Washington. The team’s ability to adapt without their top three running backs will be under close scrutiny in the coming weeks.
