LSU Football Poised to Make a Deep Run, Says Lane Kiffin
LSU football head coach Lane Kiffin is confident that his team can win in his first season with the Tigers. According to Kiffin, the roster is strong enough to make a deep run in the 2026 college football season.
The 2026 SEC Media Days took place on July 23 at the JW Marriott in downtown Tampa, Florida, where Kiffin addressed the expectations surrounding his program. Despite being projected to finish third in the Southeastern Conference behind Georgia and Texas, Kiffin expressed excitement about the roster.
"We put together a roster that can win now," Kiffin said. He believes the combination of high school talent and transfer portal players will be key to the team's success. The Tigers have been picked to finish third in the SEC, according to USA TODAY.
LSU's head coach sees the team's roster as a strong asset. "We came to LSU to sign the best players in the country out of high school and mix that with the best portal players in the country and put them together," Kiffin said. "That's led us into this roster that we have now, which is a really good mixture of that."
Senior defensive end Princewill Umanmielen and linebacker TJ Dottery, who followed Kiffin from Ole Miss to LSU, share his optimism. "This ain't no first-year rebuild thing," Umanmielen said during spring practice. "We're trying to go all the way. That's our mindset right now."
The team's confidence is built on the foundation of a strong roster. Kiffin emphasized the importance of depth, stating, "How you build your program, what makes it really go to another level is how you build your depth."
LSU's head coach is excited about the future of the program. "The future is really bright and amazing at LSU of what's to come," he said.
LSU fans are eagerly anticipating the start of the 2026 college football season, which begins in five short weeks. The team's confidence is palpable, and Kiffin's optimism is contagious. As the Tigers prepare to take the field, one thing is clear: they're ready to make a deep run in the 2026 season.
