Jalen Ramsey denies involvement in Joey Porter Jr.’s injury and trade saga with Steelers

Jalen Ramsey has publicly denied any involvement in the controversy surrounding Joey Porter Jr.’s injury and subsequent trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers. After persistent fan speculation that linked Ramsey to Porter Jr.’s “back injury” saga, the veteran cornerback took to social media on Friday to address the rumours directly.

Ramsey’s message on X was clear and pointed: “Aye, yall are crazy lol… The Joey narrative has to stop! I ain’t tell no damn body to not play lol that’s just flat out dumb!” He emphasised that he would not discourage a teammate from playing, especially someone he considers a top-five corner. Ramsey noted that Porter Jr. was actively trying to recover, showing up early for treatment and attending every team meeting. “The man was in the building tryna get right at 6 am [and] engaged in every meeting,” he wrote.

The Pittsburgh defender also stressed that his support for Porter Jr. should not be misunderstood as disloyalty to the Steelers. “Don’t take me being in his corner the wrong way. His business is his business [and] I’m rocking wit him as my dawg… but I’m a Steeler [and] I want all good players to be apart of this team. I’m tryna win!” Ramsey added.

This statement comes amid swirling comparisons between Porter Jr.’s situation and Ramsey’s own exit from the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019. Both involved sudden injuries and complicated departures, which fuelled fan theories linking the two. Ramsey was a mentor to Porter Jr. and shares the same agent, David Mulugheta, adding layers to the speculation. However, Ramsey categorically denied any role in influencing Porter Jr.’s injury report or trade.

Porter Jr.’s injury issues and eventual trade from Pittsburgh have been a source of confusion. The “back injury” was described as doubtful and mysterious, leading to questions about the legitimacy and handling of his status. While Porter Jr. was reportedly trying to get back to full health, the injury ultimately factored into the Steelers’ decision to move him.

As of now, the Steelers’ official stance and further details on Porter Jr.’s health remain limited. Ramsey’s post stands as the most direct refutation from anyone closely connected to the player. His insistence on wanting Porter Jr. to be part of the team and his claim that he “still cheat[s] when [he] play[s] Madden” reveal his personal desire to see strong teammates rather than internal conflict.

Ramsey’s public response suggests that the club will likely continue managing Porter Jr.’s situation internally without further input from the veteran cornerback.
