Vikings rely on kicker Will Reichard as offense struggles in 4-0 win over Dolphins

The Minnesota Vikings eked out a 4-0 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, relying solely on kicker Will Reichard as their offense continued to falter. Reichard accounted for all the Vikings’ points, maintaining the team’s unbeaten start to the 2026 season despite an offense that struggled to find rhythm or produce touchdowns.

Reichard’s consistency has been a rare bright spot for Minnesota. Since Week 2, he has contributed 32 points, with the special teams adding another six. The offense, however, has managed just one touchdown in that span, a deep pass from Kyler Murray to Addison last week. Against the Dolphins, the offense was largely ineffective, failing to score any points on their own even as they showed signs of improvement late in the game.

The Vikings’ offense appeared to find some momentum in the fourth quarter, shifting to a quicker passing style that suited Murray’s strengths. This adjustment, however, came too late to translate into points. Without star receiver Justin Jefferson, who missed the game, the offense has lacked firepower, and this has left the Vikings as the least imposing among the league’s remaining unbeaten teams. The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers boast more established offensive weapons, making Minnesota’s reliance on special teams all the more glaring.

Discipline issues compounded Minnesota’s offensive woes. The Vikings committed seven penalties in the first half, stalling drives and preventing them from building any sustained momentum. These mistakes kept the Dolphins competitive in a game many expected Minnesota to dominate easily. Miami’s defense, which entered the game without a sack all season, managed to pressure Murray repeatedly, exposing weaknesses in the Vikings’ offensive line.

Coach Brian Flores and quarterback Kyler Murray face mounting pressure to improve the offense before the Vikings’ bye week. Their next test comes against the New Orleans Saints, a matchup that will further expose whether Minnesota can overcome these persistent struggles.

For now, though, Reichard remains the team’s most reliable player. His kicking kept Minnesota afloat when the offense could not deliver, underscoring the narrow margin by which the Vikings have maintained their perfect record.
