The Kansas City Chiefs have opened talks with Tyreek Hill about a potential return to the team following injuries to their wide receiver corps in Sunday’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Hill, a free agent and eight-time Pro Bowler, has been in contact with the Chiefs and his agent Drew Rosenhaus, according to ESPN’s Nate Taylor.
Sunday’s 30-27 victory at Allegiant Stadium came at a cost for the Chiefs. Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton both suffered significant injuries. Thornton dislocated his left ankle in the fourth quarter after a 55-yard reception, forcing him to be carted off the field and later leave on crutches. Team doctors put his ankle back in place, but the injury is expected to sideline him for some time.
Before these injuries, the Chiefs had already expressed interest in bringing Hill back. “We’ve remained in contact with Hill and his agent Drew Rosenhaus,” a team source told Taylor. Hill has been recovering from a serious leg injury sustained over a year ago and has not played for Kansas City in five years.
Hill’s agent provided a timeline earlier this month, telling The Pat McAfee Show that doctors advised postponing a comeback until at least October. Rosenhaus said Hill and his representatives were “playing it on the safe side” as interest from NFL teams grew.
The possibility of Hill returning to Kansas City adds an unexpected twist to the offseason narrative. The Chiefs appear ready to explore options to bolster their receiving options as they cope with injuries to Rice and Thornton. Should Rice’s condition worsen, the urgency to finalize a deal with Hill will increase.
Hill’s injury and absence have been a significant storyline, and his potential reunion with the Chiefs would reunite a player who was a major part of their offence before leaving five years ago. Discussions between the parties are ongoing but no official agreement has been announced.
The Chiefs’ win over the Raiders kept both teams undefeated in their division, but the cost to their receiving corps may reshape their roster decisions. The team’s willingness to reach out to Hill shows how critical the receiver position has become following Sunday’s injuries.
