Former Steelers linebacker Vince Williams criticizes Patrick Queen’s cautious play in Week 4 loss to Browns

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen drew sharp criticism from former Steelers defender Vince Williams following a poor showing in the team’s Week 4 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

Williams took to social media to accuse Queen of “making business decisions” on the field rather than fully committing to the game. “I’m a Queen fan but he’s making business decisions out there,” Williams wrote on X. “He knows this is his last year with the Steelers and he’s playing safe.”

The moment that seemed to crystallize Williams’s frustration came on a Browns touchdown, when Queen was outmatched by 190-pound wide receiver KC Concepcion. Concepcion easily blocked Queen, allowing Browns running back Jaleel McLaughlin to sprint 28 yards into the end zone. That play drew attention for how visibly ineffective Queen looked in coverage and run support.

Queen is in the final season of a three-year contract signed in 2024. Once considered a Pro Bowl-caliber linebacker, his recent performances have fallen short of expectations in Pittsburgh. The 2026 offseason saw his name linked to possible roster cuts or trades, a fate that befell former teammate Joey Porter Jr. earlier.

The Steelers defense struggled to contain the Browns throughout the game, and Queen’s cautious play drew scrutiny amid those struggles. Williams’s comments suggest a belief that Queen is prioritizing his own contract security over aggressive play. Whether that reflects a strategic choice or a dip in form remains a matter of debate.

For now, the Steelers face growing questions about Queen’s role and future with the team. The linebacker’s ability to respond and improve may determine if Pittsburgh retains him beyond this season or moves on after this year’s contract expires.
