Alabama State football is preparing for its upcoming game against Bethune-Cookman without quarterback Andrew Body, whose injury timeline remains unclear. Head coach Eddie Robinson Jr. confirmed that Body’s wrist injury, originally described as a sprain, involves a bone issue that has slowed his recovery.
Body, the SWAC preseason Offensive Player of the Year, sustained the injury earlier this season and has since been fitted with a hard cast on his non-throwing wrist. Robinson said during his press conference on September 30 that the team does not have a firm estimate on when Body will be able to return.
"It's hard to say the timetable because we don't know how fast it will heal," Robinson said. He explained the injury affects an area where the bone receives limited oxygen and blood flow, making the healing period unpredictable. "It's not really a, it'll be back in a week, two weeks, three weeks or four weeks," he added.
Despite the uncertainty, Robinson expressed optimism about Body’s chances of returning this season. Meanwhile, the Hornets have relied on true freshman Aaron Frye in Body’s absence. Frye started in the Week 4 game against Mississippi Valley State and led Alabama State to its first SWAC victory of the season.
Frye completed 10 of 21 passes for 137 yards, throwing one touchdown and one interception. He also scored twice on the ground, rushing 29 yards on nine attempts. His three total touchdowns against MVSU are the most scored by a quarterback for Alabama State this season.
Robinson indicated that the team’s focus will remain on Frye as he continues to start, while Body works through his rehabilitation. The Hornets visit Bethune-Cookman next, hoping to build on their conference win without their starting quarterback.
The status of Body’s return will depend on how his wrist responds over the coming weeks, with no confirmed date for his comeback at this time.
